Frankenstein: A Gothic Creation
In 1818, Mary Shelley’s terrifying novel of Gothic horror,
Frankenstein, was first published. Its purpose: to consider the unholiest of all questions – what if man were to discover the power of God?
Consumed by the ambition to discover the secret of life, Dr Victor Frankenstein succeeds in creating a living, intelligent creature in his laboratory. But when the creature stirs, he fears he has unleashed a monster upon the world.
Two hundred years later, with the unlocking of the secrets of DNA and the possibility of cloning and genetic engineering, Frankenstein
is a tale that remains as relevant, and as horrifying, as ever...
To celebrate the bicentennial of the publication of Frankenstein, Timeworks toured a new adaptation of the Mary Shelley's novel to North East venues. The adaptation drew upon not only the terror of the novel itself, but also key events in the life of the woman that spawned it – joining together the stories of Victor Frankenstein, creator of a monster, and Mary Shelley, creator of one of the most celebrated horror stories of all time...
The adaptation was by John Seymour, and the play was directed by Sarah Seymour.
The cast was Lucy Curry (Mary Shelley), Arthur Thorpe (Victor Frankenstein) and Chris Iddon (The Creature).

The White Lady
- A Tapestry of Crook Hall
800 years are captured within the walls of Crook Hall. 800 years of history. 800 years of love and war, life and death...
The White Lady sees it all. She knows it all, can touch it all.
She sees the living and she sees the dead, and she hears the echoes between past and present.
But what secrets does she long to uncover?

Specially written and produced by Timeworks Theatre for Crook Hall’s 800th anniversary, ‘The White Lady
– A Tapestry of Crook Hall’ was a play about time, history and our links with the past.
Performed in October 2017, the play was set entirely in Crook Hall’s medieval hall, and incorporated the hall's rich history and unique legend in the telling of an atmospheric and haunting tale.
'The White Lady - A Tapestry of Crook Hall' was written by John Seymour, directed by Sarah Seymour, and starred Jonathan Cash, Chris Iddon and Catherine Shepherd.
